If you’ve ever had a toothache, you know how excruciating it can be, disrupting daily life and leaving you desperate for relief. Such pain is difficult for adults to bear and even more intolerable for our little ones.

It’s always best to find a children’s dental expert who can offer your child thorough treatment, but sometimes a dentist isn’t always available. Here are some top home remedies for a toothache that can provide temporary relief.

Saltwater Rinse

A simple yet effective remedy, a saltwater rinse can do a great job of alleviating toothaches. It reduces inflammation and kills bacteria, which is what was causing the pain in the first place. All you have to do is mix some salt in warm water and have your child swish it around in their mouth. If they repeat it a few times a day, they can find some temporary relief.

In children's dental care, this is probably the best option you have to relieve your child’s pain since it also addresses part of the issue at hand.

Clove Oil

Clove oil has natural analgesic and antibacterial properties, which is why it works so well for toothache relief. Your child may not like the feeling of oil in their mouth, but clove oil can do a great job of making the pain go away.

Ice Pack

An ice pack is not always the best idea, but it can provide temporary numbness and reduce inflammation. All you have to do is wrap ice in a thin cloth and apply it to the side of your child’s face where the aching tooth is. Make sure not to apply it too long, or it can damage their skin.

Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers

Non-prescription pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can offer temporary relief from toothache pain, but these aren’t always recommended for children. Make sure the medicine you choose is safe for your child to use.

See the Dentist!

Home remedies can provide temporary relief, but they will not get to the root of the problem. If your child is facing severe pain, you should take them to a children’s pediatric dentistry expert for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
