Teeth Cleaning & Exam For Children

A+ A- A Main Content

Receiving a teeth cleaning and exam is a very important part of maintaining healthy teeth and gums for your child!

Plaque and tartar buildup can be managed through proper oral hygiene, but can’t be completely and thoroughly removed without professional assistance. If these damaging substances are not removed regularly, they can eventually lead to tooth problems and gum disease. It’s recommended that your child receive a teeth cleaning at least every 3 to 6 months.

What happens during a cleaning?

  • Your child’s mouth will be examined for tooth infections, decay, swollen or bleeding gums, open sores or any other concerns.
  • Plaque and tartar will be removed from all tooth surfaces using a variety of methods, depending on the amount of plaque and tartar.
  • Once the hygienist is finished with the initial cleaning, our pediatric dentist will evaluate your child’s mouth. This will include a review of the teeth, gums, and any concerns you may have.
