5 Tips for Teaching Kids to Brush

As your child grows older and starts consuming solids, it becomes necessary to teach them how to brush their teeth. What you teach them when they’re young will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Instilling the importance of oral hygiene from an early age will ensure they take care of their teeth every day of their life!

Imposing something on a child is never a good way to teach them. Instead, you’ve got to respect the fact that brushing their teeth is a new experience for them, and it’ll take them time to get the hang of it.

The 5 tips below will help you teach your kids to brush their teeth

  1. Start Early

The first and most important tip here is to start early. Starting early on while they are still in the process of building good habits will ensure that they pick up the habit of brushing their teeth daily. Then, when they grow older, they’ll brush their teeth just like they do other important things, like washing their face every morning, because they won’t know it any other way!

  1. Let Them Pick a Toothbrush and Toothpaste

Letting your child pick a toothbrush and toothpaste can motivate them to brush their teeth daily. They’ll be more excited to use the toothbrush and toothpaste they chose!

  1. Make it Fun

As we said earlier, imposing something isn’t the best way to build a routine. One important tip that’ll help you teach your child to brush is to make it fun for them. Get them a cool toothbrush and brush along with them. Make it a competition like who’ll make the most bubbles in less time every day.

  1. Reward Them

When you start teaching your child how to brush their teeth, reward them. Offer them a treat, extra screen time, or something else they like every time they remember to brush their teeth without having to be reminded!

  1. Educate Them

Many children don’t do something unless they know why they’re doing it. Educate your child about why brushing your teeth every day is important.

Taking your child to the dentist every 6 months is very important to ensure their oral health is on-point. If you’re looking for a children’s dentist, Little Rockies Kids Dental is where you should go with your little one. We have baby dentists and child dentists who know their way around kids!
