Dental Tourism

We all know it’s important to take care of our teeth, but we also know the expense dental care can cost.

Dental tourism seems to be an option that has been increasingly popular in the US. A recent estimate in 2012 showed that 400,000 Americans crossed international borders for dental care. In 2013 it was 20% more.

The most searched placed for dental care is in Mexico, U.K. and the Philippines. While the cost may be less and besides the extra traveling you may enjoy, you should really consider making a relationship with your local dentist in the US. Your local dentists have procedures in place to keep your history in a personal file. If something goes wrong with your oral health, you are just moments away from the dentist who know you or any number of other dental professionals. There are also laws in the US to protect you against negligence. The allure of Dental Tourism is not the procedure, and at a certain point it can no longer be the price range. The real appeal is visiting a new place. Is that a good reason to have dental work?

Dr. Maria Lopez Howell, consumer advisor for the American Dental Association, says, “If something goes wrong, what is the recourse? Is there a ministry of health? Is there a forum for complaints in the country that you’re going to visit? You really have to do your research.

There are good dentists all over the world but nothing beats a personal relationship with your dentist when it comes to the health of your mouth. Remember, healthy mouth, healthy body.
